This is an extended version of the Pitt Wildlife loop. The 16.2 km route begins and ends at the Grant Narrows car park. It takes in the north and east sides of the Addington Marsh bird sanctuary and continues to the south to the start of the blueberry fields. It then turns west and follows the dyke along the north edge of the fields until it joins Koerner Rd. At this point you have a choice. You can either take a northwest dyke path that cuts across the marsh and joins Rannie Rd. after 2.6 km or continue straight west to Rannie Rd. We tried the first option but had to back track after finding the trail closed due to Sandhill Crane nesting sites. We actually spotted a crane from a distance. The alternative route involves a 2.1 km stretch along the shoulder of Rannie Rd until the first access to the Pitt River dyke. If you do this section watch out for traffic. There were a lot of speeders. Once on the dyke it is a pleasant stroll back to the car park.
We did this walk on April 16th. There was plenty of wildlife to see including otters (2), Ospreys, Blue Herons, a Sandhill Crane, Bald Eagles and a wide variety of ducks. We also spotted a garter snake on the southern leg of the marsh. All in all a great walk for nature lovers.
