“It was like walking in a Cloud”
Which sounds romantic enough except that it was very wet and the views were terrible.
An a clear day however this trail would be remarkable.
Starting from Buntzen Lake we climbed around 650m and then did a little bush whacking to link up to the forest service road that circles around ends at Cypress Lake.
Moving on from there the trail gets more interesting as it is far less traveled and therefore overgrown, requiring a lot of close contacts with wet bushes. What made the trek particularly challenging was the number of fallen trees that required an over, under or around solution… In many places large sections of the trail were obliterated as the massive Hemlocks toppled with roots intact revealing vast stores of rubies and emeralds from underneath their structures.
The final ascent to the rock itself required a little scrambling but the view was incredible, at least in my imagination, as all I we really saw was 360 degrees grey of cloud. The path down was equally challenging with more trees to scramble over.
We added a romp around the Lindsay Lakes to add a bit more time and distance. It was soggy as it usually is and with the last remnants of winter snow to add to the adventure.
I’d definitely do this trail again on a clear day… but on a rainy day I think I'd move it to Diez Vista.
